Baby Axolotls Born at Easy Little Plants!

On a normal day, Savannah, the 22 year old owner of Easy Little Plants in Olney, teaches workshops, hosts birthday parties, and pots houseplants in repurposed tea cups. However, this was no normal day. Benny, the shop’s axolotl, was getting a friend: another axolotl named Spike! The next day, there were eggs; “I was shocked, but excited at the same time. We thought they were both male.” says Savannah.

Spike, now named Rosie, moved back in with her previous owner, as both caretakers agreed to split and care for the eggs. Savannah is excited to introduce the baby axolotls to anyone who visits Easy Little Plants. “We’re looking for future homes for them, but we’re also enjoying how cute they are!”

Benny has helped Savannah get through some major health issues. “He’s what motivates me to keep the shop open. Because of him, I won’t give up. His silly face is always there for me when I’m hurting or depressed.” Savannah wants others to get to see the joy that these adorable amphibians can bring.

Savannah hopes to find prospective homes for the baby axolotls, and to teach people about their care. “It’ll be four months before they’re ready to adopt. Axolotls need special care, so make sure you do lots of research!” In the meantime, come say hello to Savannah, Benny, and the axolotl babies at Easy Little Plants! Here, there’s no green thumb required. Everyone’s welcome to enjoy some plant-y fun! Find our schedule here: www.easylittleplants.com.
