Reflection Park is a non-profit multi-faith natural burial ground and park in Silver Spring that opened in November 2025. As Montgomery County’s first modern natural burial ground, its mission is to restore our relationship with the natural cycle of life, death, and renewal to promote more conscious and purposeful living through a return to traditional, natural burial practices.
In addition to the obvious environmental benefits of natural burial, there is a tangible benefit to living humans as well. Natural burial welcomes involvement from family and friends in the burial process, from lowering the body into the earth to returning soil to the grave. For many people, these are meaningful ways of connecting with someone who died. Natural burial is as much about living fully as it is about honoring the departed.
Burial services are usually simple, beautiful, and personalized. Only biodegradable materials are used for caskets and shrouds; embalming, vaults, and liners are prohibited. At the head of each grave, a flat memorial stone lies flush with the ground. The Park has three burial sections: Salaam, Shalom, and Peace, to accommodate Jewish, Muslim, and interfaith or secular burial practices. In addition to the burial areas, Reflection Park has a one-mile forested hiking path that winds through 30 acres of woods and along streams.
Learn more by attending an open house or scheduling a call with Reflection Park staff. The Park is open daily from 8:30 am to sunset, and visitors are welcome to explore the grounds on their own.
