The 2023 Taiwan Bubble Tea Festival will take place this Saturday, September 23rd from 10am until 4pm at Rockville Town Square. The event is being held by Taiwan Sister Cities, an organization “dedicated to promoting, educating, and fostering intercultural understanding and cooperation among the people of the United States and the people of Taiwan.”

Per Poolesville Day event coordinators: “The forecasts for Saturday are not our favorite, but Poolesville Day is on RAIN OR SHINE! That includes the parade. So grab your umbrella and raincoats, be prepared to get a little wet, and come on out. It will still be an awesome day!”

The Town of Poolesville, Maryland, hosts the annual Poolesville Day for the public to enjoy all that is offered in the charming Western Montgomery County township of approximately 6,000 residents. The event takes place on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Rain or Shine) at the Whalen Commons, 19701 Fisher Avenue, Poolesville, MD 20837. Poolesville Day Highlights:

Update: This event has been postponed due to weather. The new date will be Saturday, October 28th from 12pm-3pm.

The Germantown Volunteer Fire Department and Montgomery County Police Department District 5 will be holding a joint event on Saturday, October 28th from 12pm-3pm at 20001 Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 23, but has been postponed due to weather.


DMV

Per the National Weather Service: Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen will move northward toward the Mid-Atlantic Coast through Friday before moving northward near the Mid-Atlantic Coast Saturday through Sunday. The main threat will be a storm surge with inundation around 2 to 3 feet most likely for locations along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay as well as the shore of the Tidal Potomac River.

The highest water levels will be around times of high tide Saturdaythrough Saturday night. Rainfall will most likely average between 1 to 3 inches with localized amounts around 3 to 5 inches possible. The best chance for the highest rainfall amounts will be near and east of Interstate 95.


Restaurants

Akira Ramen & Izakaya, located at 1800 Rockville Pike h1 at the Galvan in Rockville, is temporarily closed. The restaurant closed on Tuesday as they undergo a change in management, according to a sign on the door of the restaurant. Though a reopening date has not been provided, the restaurant does plan to open again (full note left on the door available below).

Akira Ramen & Izakaya will also open a new location next to Ela Mesa Taste of Greece (109 Paramount Park Drive) in the Spectrum Town Center in Gaithersburg. It opened its Rockville restaurant in 2017.


Downtown Silver Spring

The 10th annual Harvest Moon Festival, a free, multicultural event of arts, entertainment and exhibitors, promises fun for all ages in Silver Spring this Sunday, September 24th at Veterans Plaza from 1pm until 7pm. Joint Initiative with USG Also Aims to Build Awareness of Waste-to-Energy Benefits

With a new academic year underway, the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) and Covanta, a leader in sustainable waste management and operator of the Montgomery County Resource Recovery Facility, are proud to jointly announce a new scholarship program that can benefit students who are enrolled in an array of academic programs offered by USG’s nine partner universities.


Rockville

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and Dill Dinkers will hold the grand opening of its second Montgomery County location in Rockville, just six miles away from its recently opened North Bethesda location, on Monday, September 25th. The Rockville facility is located at 40-C Southlawn Court, next to ZavaZone and near the Sportsplex and Ice Arena.

As part of its grand opening, Dill Dinkers will offer free open play from 9am-9pm from September 25th through September 29th. Dill Dinkers offers a wide array of options for getting out on the courts to play, including court reservations for members and non-members, clinics, leagues, and lessons for new and experienced players looking to improve their game. Dill Dinkers will also offer advertising opportunities within the facility for businesses and organizations looking to reach a large, active audience focused on healthy living.


Education

The Montgomery County Board of Education will hold its business meeting on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Closed session will begin at 12:00 p.m. Public agenda items will begin at 3:30 p.m.  The meeting will be cablecast live on Comcast Channel 34 (HD 1071), Verizon Channel 36, RCN Channel 89 and the MCPS website.
