Beyond MoCo

Per the Metropolitan Police Department: Agents from the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Force Investigations Team are investigating a fatal FBI agent-involved shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, inside of the Metro Center Station, at G Street and 11th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 6:21 pm, an off-duty FBI agent and the suspect were involved in a physical altercation inside of Metro Center Station. The suspect pushed the FBI agent backwards over a railing on the platform. The suspect also went over the railing and they both landed approximately eight feet below the train platform. After the fall, the FBI agent discharged their firearm and struck the suspect. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene to provide medical aid to the suspect but found no signs consistent with life. The FBI agent was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Recovered from the suspect was a handgun. The suspect was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Troy Bullock of Southeast, DC.


MoCo Government

Per Montgomery County: The Montgomery County Office of Human Rights and M&T Bank are partnering for the second year to offer a free 10-week “Small Business Accelerator Program” to assist small businesses—both emerging ones and those trying to rebuild from the impacts the COVID health crisis. The program will teach early-stage and minority entrepreneurs the essentials of business planning, operations, credit building, digital communication and financial management. It also could provide access to capital.

Applications are now being accepted to join the program, which will run from Jan. 10 through March 14. There is no limit on the number of programs that can participate, but the deadline to apply is Friday, Dec. 23. The first year of the program was an overwhelming success. Silver Spring

At approximately 4:14 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the location for the report of a strong-armed robbery that just occurred.  The investigation by detectives has determined that the juvenile male victim entered the pharmacy to make a purchase. The suspects then surrounded the victim while inside the pharmacy and demanded the hooded sweatshirt he was wearing. The victim complied with the suspects’ demand and handed over his sweatshirt. The suspects then exited the pharmacy and left the scene.  Detectives reviewed the surveillance cameras of the pharmacy and obtained video footage of the suspects.


Gaithersburg

Construction has begun at the upcoming “Oak, Barrel, and Vine” store at 512 N. Frederick Ave. in the Gaithersburg Square shopping center, next to Lil’ Cakes & Creamery and the recently opened Five Below. The county-run beer, wine, and liquor store is expected to open in spring 2023 and will feature a tasting room with beers on tap and space to hold events hosted by local breweries and distillers. The Oak Barrel & Vine branded stores feature handpicked items with a focus on spirits and locally manufactured products. The Gaithersburg store will have a large tasting room and event space, an improved selection of small format items, queue lines for faster checkout, improved wayfinding signs and better customer accessibility. The new location will fill a gap caused by the 2018 closure of the ABS Milestone store. It also will increase service levels to the growing population in the Gaithersburg area.


Damascus

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 25-year-old woman from Damascus. Johnnai Antawojue Miracle Slater was last seen on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at approximately 2:15 a.m., in the area of Honeysuckle Ct.

Slater is described as approximately 5-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair, styled in braids. She was last seen wearing a black trench coat and red Jordan sneakers. She was also carrying a Dell laptop. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.


Montgomery Village

According to MCPD, “At approximately 9:40 a.m., MCP officers responded to a residence in the 9000 block of Chadburn Place in Montgomery Village.  The preliminary on scene investigation has determined that an adult male suspect entered the residence, assaulted an adult female victim, and discharged a firearm. 

The adult female victim and a juvenile female exited the residence.  The suspect barricaded inside of the residence for some time and then exited the residence and surrendered. The suspect was taken into custody by MCP officers.   


Olney

The Pupusa Box food truck is now open at the Shell Gas Station located at 18040 Georgia Ave in Olney. In addition to pupusas, the truck also serves a variety of tacos, tortas, wings, nachos, and baleadas (photo of the menu board below). According to their website, “Our trailer is more than just a place to grab lunch. It is a place to try out new dishes typical to our native Central American countries.”

In other MoCo food truck news, the Muoi Tieu food truck, which serves Vietnamese cuisine, is set to debut on Dec. 9 at the Takoma Park Gift(ing) Market and will also participate in the Market at the Bank event on December 18. The official soft opening and grand opening is coming in January 2023. So far, the menu consists of Cuon (Rice Paper Rolls) and Banh Mi (Vietnamese Sandwiches) and will be serving the Takoma Park area. Additional details here.


Montgomery Planning

The Council intends to appoint successors, before February 28, 2023, for three members. The Council is expected to appoint the remaining two positions, including the chair, by June 14, 2023 and will advertise to fill those positions at a later date.

The following temporary Board members will vacate their positions at the end of February 2023: Ms. Amy Presley, Mr. David Hill, and Ms. Cherri Branson. The positions are available to fill the unexpired terms of the prior Planning Board members as follows:


Gaithersburg

Per the Gaithersburg Police Department: On December 7, 2022, detectives from the Gaithersburg Police – Investigative Section charged Quaicy Hardy, age 23 of Whetstone Drive in Gaithersburg, Maryland, with first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm possession with felony conviction, discharging of a weapon within City limits, and several other firearms related charges.

On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at approximately 5:07 p.m., officers from both the Gaithersburg Police Department and the Montgomery County Police – 6th District responded to the area of Whetstone Drive for the report of a shooting that just occurred. Officers located a 24-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers provided first-aid on the victim until Fire and Rescue personnel arrived, at which point the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A handgun was recovered on scene. Hardy was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is held without bond.
