On Thursday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich was joined by members of the Montgomery County Council, including Council President Gabe Albornoz, and nonprofit and faith leaders to announce 61 grant recipients of $700,000 in County funding to improve security and deter hate crimes through the County’s Nonprofit Security Grants program.
In May 2021, the Montgomery County Council approved $700,000 to be available in the Fiscal Year 2022 budget to be used for nonprofit organizations and facilities which have experienced, or are at high risk of experiencing, hate crimes. These grants are available to augment funds for security personnel or other security planning and training measures for nonprofit organizations located in Montgomery County. Faith-based facilities at risk of hate crimes were also eligible to apply. The funds are administered by the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS).

Ebisu Life Store is now open at 836 Rockville Pike, the former location of Shah and Patel Grocery. The store features Japanese food/snacks, beauty products, household supplies, and baby products. The chain’s flagship store is located in Flushing, New York. About Ebisu, translated from their website:
Foodies who like Japanese snacks, please come here, the three brothers of French fries, Shiroi Koibito, Meiji chocolate, and even drinks have been brought over for you, and you can get as many pounds of meat as you want!
Isaac’s Poultry Market is coming to 12167 Darnestown Rd in Gaithersburg, the former site of the recently demolished Pizza Hut. The restaurant is being opened by Rob Gresham, a lifelong MoCo resident and the former Director of Operations at CAVA.
The restaurant will feature American roasted chicken, wings, sandwiches, and salads. They tell us that everything they sell will be made from scratch and that the menu will feature plenty of healthy options. Isaac’s will also feature frozen custards and a variety of baked goods and desserts.

Permanent signage is up at the upcoming Qdoba at 16260 Frederick Road, the former home to Jerry’s Subs and Pizza.
A representative from Qdoba tells us, “at this time due to Covid and other restrictions we do not have an opening date just yet.”
Starting today and running through Saturday, Carmen’s Italian Ice at 1115 Nelson St in Rockville is doing their annual “Pay the Price of the Weather” promotion. Whatever the temperature is outside, that’s the price of a small Italian ice (you can substitute gelati for an extra dollar.)
While obviously not a huge money maker for the store, Carmen’s owner Jason Mandler tells us the promotion is a nice treat for their diehards fans and something fun to do during the off-season, when people don’t typically have frozen treats on their mind.
