The Lake New Mark Commons community in Rockville has raised reward funds in hopes of closing an animal cruelty case involving Canada Geese, according to the Rockville Police Department. A $1,000 reward is being offered. Full flyer from the community can be seen below:

Lake New Mark, a private lake in New Mark Commons (an HOA community in Rockville) has served as home to a beloved Canada Goose family peacefully for several years. Canada Geese are protected by Federal and State laws.

On Sunday evening, July 24th, between approx. 8:00 pm – 8:30 pm, a Canada goose was killed along the bank of the lake. At least 3 boys (approx. 12 – 15 years old) were seen in the area of the goose family of 4 at that time. The geese were heard making distressing noises and 3 of them swam frantically away. The boys then ran in the direction of the bridge at or around 226 – 216 New Mark Esplanade. Right after they fled, the 4th goose, one of the Canada goose parents, was dead in the lake with severe injuries.

Description: 3 Boys; approx. 12 – 15 years old. 1 male was Black, slender build, wearing bright yellow shirt or light jacket, possibly hoodie. 2nd male was Black or dark-complected, slender build. 3rd male was undetermined.

If anyone witnessed any part of this egregious act of animal cruelty, has video (door cams, cell phone, etc.) of the boys in or leaving the area, knows where they went, or knows the individuals involved in the incident, please call (240) 314-8933 or email Officer Mowell at FMowell@rockvillemd.gov.
A reward will be given to anyone who provides information that leads to a conviction in this case.”
