Additional Information Released by MCPD About Fatal Crash This Morning in Gaithersburg

Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in Gaithersburg

For Immediate Release: Sunday, April 18, 2021

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning in Gaithersburg.

Today, Sunday, April 18, at approximately 5:50 a.m., a Montgomery County police officer on his way to work came across a collision at the intersection of Clopper Road (MD-117) and Orchard Hills Drive.

Preliminary investigation has determined that a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west on Clopper Road.  For reasons still under investigation, the Malibu crossed the centerline in the area of Orchard Hills Drive and struck a 2018 Nissan Sentra that was traveling east on Clopper Road.

The driver of the Malibu was pronounced deceased at the scene.  He is identified as Emil William Cosbert, age 29, of Germantown.

The driver of the Sentra, identified as 27-year-old Juliette Marie Simon of Cheltenham, Maryland, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continues to investigate this collision.  Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.
