A nightmare scenario for anyone who has walked down a city street with the fear of falling through a sidewalk grate occurred for a D.C. woman on Wednesday, falling approximately 10 feet down into an air well.
At approximately 5:30pm, fire and rescue units were called to the 800 block of 4th St SW for a below grade rescue after an adult female fell approximately 10 feet down into an air well. The woman was extricated and treated for injuries and will be okay, according to DC Fire and EMS.
No word on how or why the sidewalk grate collapsed.
