If elected, Anleu will focus on making housing more attainable for more people, building a better transportation network and facilitating new development in the area. Prior to working for the Planning Board, Anleu worked as a staffer for Council President Tom Hucker for nearly five years.
“It has been an honor to serve the residents of this district,” said Anleu. “This district has a number of challenges and needs, including long overdue activity centers in Burtonsville and White Oak, bike and pedestrian safety issues, and school overcrowding. My experience delivering policy changes, capital funding and prompt constituent service makes me uniquely prepared to tackle these and other issues on day one.”
Some of Anleu’s proudest career accomplishments include:
-
Helping to secure funding for park projects in Hillandale, Fairland and Cloverly;
-
Working on a bill to get lead out of drinking water in schools;
-
Getting legislation passed to allow community solar projects in the county; and
-
Keeping a 20-year-old small business from relocating out of Montgomery County.
Anleu’s father was from Guatemala and his mother is from El Salvador. He grew up in the Hillandale community where he graduated from Springbrook High School. After college, he bought his first home in Burtonsville where he lived for nearly a decade.
In Burtonsville, Anleu co-founded the Coalition to Fix 198 and the Better Burtonsville Association; served on the board of Friends of Maydale and as a representative for the Paint Branch Cluster of PTAs. He lives in Hillandale again with his 11-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter.
Anleu is participating in the county’s public campaign financing program. He plans to take an unpaid leave of absence early next year to focus on the campaign full-time.
