Chef Tony’s St Elmo Ave Location Closing This Sunday

by Patrick Herron

Chef Tony’s at 4926 St Elmo Ave in Bethesda will have it’s last day of service this Sunday, May 23rd. This is not an unexpected decision, as the that area is scheduled to be redeveloped into apartment buildings. Neighboring restaurant VUK closed its doors on May 16th. The restaurant plans to reopen in a new location this September.

In a letter on their website, the owners write, “some time ago, we realized this date was nearing, and we needed to see what other opportunities were out there…and we have been looking and looking at neighboring spots, trying to find the best space that would be suitable to move our business in Bethesda…and we’re happy to say we’ve found it!”

Chef Tony’s is regarded as one of the best restaurants in Montgomery County and is known for their fresh seafood and large wine selection. The Chef Tony’s Promenade Restaurant at 5225 Pooks Hill Road remains open.

Short Version…then an extended version 😌

This post / email has been brewing in my head for a long time,

and perhaps “as usual” I’m late in getting it out, but here we go…

As with many stories, it’s a bit sad and a bit happy…mostly happy.

We have known for quite some time that our beloved original restaurant would have to leave us due to “development” in my little town of Bethesda.

We have enjoyed/stressed/won/lost/built and continue to enjoy this spot at 4926 St Elmo since we started in 2007 just before the recession of 2008-2010.

As you can imagine, we are quite comfortable in this space and can recount a TON of memories of ourselves and our guests. It’s been quite the ride.

So we have to announce that after May 23rd,

we will be closed as a business in Bethesda.

Yes, I know…sucks right? We feel as if we’re going to watch the demolition of our house, our home our sanctuary of so many memories…

it will be an emotional day for sure.

But wait, there is more to the story… 😃

Some time ago, we realized this date was nearing, and we needed to see what other opportunities were out there…and we have been looking and looking at neighboring spots, trying to find the best space that would be suitable to move our business in Bethesda…and we’re happy to say we’ve found it!

Now we can’t say where JUST yet (deal is being penned in days) but we feel very comfortable to say that you’ll LOVE the spot,

feel like it’s our old friend on St Elmo…

and we’ll be doing our VERY best to be open around September!

Blessings to all of you that have supported us ALL these years, it has been an INCREDIBLE JOURNEY that we would never turn in for anything.

To be clear…NONE OF THIS would be without my amazing parents, RIP Dad, we all love you and miss you more than you can possibly understand. ❤️

My wife Sonia is THE rock that holds ALL together, sweetheart…your presence warms and connects us all. You ARE my number one.

So thank you everyone, and as soon as we sign our next deal,

YOU’LL be first to know!

Please make sure you’re on our list, to get the latest and greatest…talk soon!!

Thanks, Chef Tony & Chef Sonia Marciante & our amazing team

Proprietors

p.s. there will be an interesting way to be involved in this potentially…

news next week.
