'Two separate collisions occurred this morning on Connecticut Ave in Silver Spring; one at Connecticut Ave. and Atherton Dr. that involved two vehicles and a secondary collision at Connecticut Ave and Independence Ave a short time later. All north and southbound lanes of Connecticut Ave. (MD-185) between Weller Rd. and Independence St were temporarily closed. The first collision occurred around 7:30am Thursday morning. Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Pete Piringer reports that EMS is evaluating at least five patients, all w/ traumatic injury, including two with Priority 1 injuries (life threatening), and three with Priority 2 injures.
Drivers are to expect significant delays and advised to seek an alternate route. We will post an update when more information becomes available.
