Community Meeting to Discuss Gaithersburg’s Headwaters Drainage Study Project to Take Place in December

by MCS Staff

An in-person Community Meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. The meeting will include a general overview of the Headwaters Drainage Study project’s progress and an open discussion with the community. To register to participate, e-mail Postcards will also be sent to resident addresses that are located within the study area. The meeting will be recorded and posted on the City of Gaithersburg YouTube account. Thank you to everyone who has provided project input and we look forward to sharing our progress and discussing community opinions during the upcoming meeting.

The objective of the Headwaters Drainage Study project is to conduct a drainage study of the headwaters of the Muddy Branch, Lower Seneca Creek, and the Middle Seneca Creek watersheds to identify, evaluate, and prioritize opportunities for improving neighborhood level stormwater management (SWM) systems. The study will seek to:

  • Evaluate existing conditions and identify “pinch points” in the drainage system;
  • Address drainage complaints received from the community;
  • Foster stakeholder engagement through community outreach efforts; and
  • Inform future SWM system repairs and City capital improvement projects for greater climate resilience.
