Councilmember Nancy Navarro Endorses David Blair for County Executive

Montgomery County Councilmember Nancy Navarro has endorsed David Blair for County Executive. In a press release from the Blair campaign, Navarro is quoted as saying, “I heartily endorse David Blair for County Executive because I believe he will bring the right leadership ability and experience that will move us forward towards a more innovative and economically vibrant county as he builds on the progress we have made in many crucial areas,” and “This COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated our challenges, but it has also opened exciting opportunities for innovation, equity and shared prosperity. David understands the importance of bringing everyone into the conversation, including traditionally underrepresented communities, and has a proven record of visioning and executing big, bold ideas. This seminal moment requires strong leadership that will leverage our assets in order to expand opportunities for all. We need David’s bold and enterprising leadership in the office of the County Executive.”

Rockville, Md., May 23, 2022 –  Montgomery County Councilmember and Maryland Lieutenant Governor candidate Nancy Navarro has endorsed Democrat David Blair for County Executive.

Navarro, the first and only Latina to serve on the Montgomery County Council, has represented District 4 since 2009, twice been chosen by her Council colleagues to serve as Council President, and is well known for her strong leadership on expanding early childhood education, advancing economic development in Wheaton and East County, ensuring racial equity and social justice are part of County policymaking, improving fiscal sustainability and government operations, and more throughout her impressive career.

Navarro is running for Lieutenant Governor alongside Governor candidate Rushern Baker in the Democratic gubernatorial primary.

On the Council, Navarro serves as Chair of the Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee and on the Education and Culture Committee. Prior to joining the Council, Navarro was a member of the Montgomery County Board of Education, where she served two consecutive terms as the Board’s President. She is currently serving as president of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Corporate Board, composed of elected officials from across the region.

Navarro has received numerous awards and recognitions for her leadership in a variety of public policy areas including education, racial equity, civic engagement, women empowerment, business development, and immigrant rights, among others. In 2019, she was named for the second time to Washingtonian Magazine’s list of Most Powerful Women.

Navarro joins a fast-growing number of local leaders and organizations who have pledged their support for Blair in the July 19 Democratic Primary for County Executive. Endorsers of Blair include former Councilmember and gubernatorial candidate Valerie Ervin, the Sierra Club, the Greater Capital Area Association of REALTORS, Maryland Senate Majority Leader Nancy King (District 39), State Senator and Vice Chair of the Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee Cheryl Kagan (District 17), City of Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman, former Congressional Reps. John Delaney and Michael Barnes, and former City of Rockville Mayor and 2018 County Executive candidate Rose Krasnow.

The Democratic Primary for County Executive will be July 19, 2022. Early Voting will run from July 7 through July 14, 2022.
