‘Culinary Traditions of the Diáspora Latinoamericana’ to be Presented Virtually on Monday, Oct. 10, as Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Continues

Per Montgomery County:
Silver Spring Town Center, Inc.’s celebration of “Hispanic Heritage Month” will continue from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, with the free, virtual and delicious exploration of Culinary Traditions of the Diáspora Latinoamericana. The event will be hosted by Professor Iane Campos-Siddique.

Local community members representing the diversity of the Latin American Diaspora will gather to share their food memories and culinary traditions from across the Americas.

Ms. Campos-Siddique is a linguist and Portuguese language instructor who has taught at various colleges and universities in the U.S. and Brazil. She is a long-time community member of Silver Spring, where she has lived with her family since 2001.

Presenters during the event will include:

  • Bolivia – Vanesa Pinto. Empowerment and Leadership Development Program director for CHEER/Community Health and Empowerment through Education and Research.
  • Brazil – Sonia Pessoa, nutritionist and dance instructor.
  • Cuba – Reemberto Rodriguez, University of Maryland affiliate and retired Silver Spring Regional Center director and Geraldina Dominguez, health scientist, National Institutes of Health.
  • Chile – Mauricio ‘Reese’ Aguilar Valsasnini, human resources manager.
  • Dominican Republic – Jannelle Cortes, choreographer/performer/entrepreneur and director of GrooveFit and GrooveTrips.
  • El Salvador – Ada Villatoro, owner of El Golfo.
  • El Salvador – Gilberto Zelaya, community engagement/public relations officer for the Montgomery County Board of Elections.
  • Mexican American – Bertie Venzor LoPiccolo, artist.
  • Mexico and Brazil – Djanira Murchison, Interpreter of Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Panama – Mónica Sanjur, voice actor.
  • Puerto Rico – Jaime and Josie Robles, educators.
