Damascus defeated Oakdale 21-14 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis on Saturday night to win the school’s 12th State Championship, tying Seneca Valley for the Maryland state record. Damascus has appeared in 17 State Championship games.
The Swarmin’ Hornets jumped out to a 14-0 lead at the half before taking a 21-0 lead in the third quarter on a Dunathan touchdown run. Oakdale came back down the field to score a touchdown and make it 21-7 going into the 4th quarter. After a few stops for each team, Oakdale scores a touchdown with just under 4 minutes left in the game to cut the lead to 21-14. The onside kick attempt was not successful and Damascus was able to get two first downs to run out the clock and win the game.
Damascus joined Quince Orchard in bringing a football state championship back to MoCo, as QO beat Flowers in a battle of two undefeated teams on Thursday night, 32-7.
