Per the City of Rockville:
Property Owners Can Help Reduce Pollution and Flooding
Rainfall that lands on conventional lawns, roofs, patios, walkways, and driveways rapidly accumulates into runoff. This runoff collects pollutants like pet waste, fertilizers, pesticides, car fluids, and trash before entering storm drains and being carried to local streams and the Chesapeake Bay. Stormwater runoff not only impacts the health of our local waterways, but can cause drainage issues around your home or yard and increase the chances of flooding for your downstream neighbors.

Private property owners can play an important role in reducing pollution and flooding, and creating wildlife habitat by installing small-scale stormwater projects.

RainScapes Rebates

Single-family homeowners and nonprofits, including religious institutions, private schools, homeowners associations and condominium associations, can receive up to a lifetime maximum of $2,500 in rebates for the approved projects below.

	Conservation Landscaping Replace a portion of your lawn with a native plant garden to help pollinators, reduce pollution and create wildlife habitat, and beautify your yard. Rebate Amount: $2 per sq. ft. with soil improvement or $1 per sq. ft. without soil improvement.
	Pavement Removal Remove impervious surfaces such as patios, walkways or excess driveway to help reduce polluted runoff and flooding. Rebate Amount: $4 per sq. ft. if replacing with conservation landscaping or $3 per sq. ft. if replacing with sod
	Rain Barrels Install rain barrels that store and collect rain water from your roof to help reduce runoff in your yard and reduce pollutants to local streams. Rebate Amount: $1 per gallon
	Tree Canopy Plant native trees that can help slow runoff, filter pollutants, provide shade and help local birds and other wildlife. Rebate Amount: $150 per tree
	Permeable Paver Retrofit Replace your existing driveway, patio, walkway or other impermeable surface with a paver system designed to allow rainwater to soak back into the ground. Rebate Amount: $4 per sq. ft. or $1,200, whichever is greater
