Detectives Investigate String of Auto Thefts and Theft from Autos in the Potomac Area

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 24, 2021

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – 1st and 2nd District and the 1st District Patrol Investigative Unit are investigating multiple auto thefts and thefts from autos that occurred during the overnight hours of August 7 and August 11 in the Potomac area. Detectives are releasing surveillance video of the suspects and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.

Residential surveillance video shows multiple suspects checking vehicle door handles to see if the vehicles are unlocked on the streets and in driveways. The suspects gained access to the unlocked vehicles and stole property or the vehicle, if the keys were left inside.

Investigators believe that the auto thefts and thefts from auto are committed by the same suspects.

Anyone with information regarding these suspects is asked to call the1st District Investigative Section at 240-773-6084 or the Crime Solvers Tip line 1-866-411-TIPS(8477). Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or submit a Crime Solvers tip online or via the app. Crime Solvers may pay a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
