Brookside Gardens (1800 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton) will be hosting a Drag Queen Story Hour on Saturday, April 16 from 10am to 11am.
Per Montgomery Parks:
Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models.
In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish and where dress-up is real.
FREE! No registration is required.
This event will be held at Brookside Gardens

Grooming is not acceptable in this community
If you think reading stories to kids is grooming then you are not the brightest bulb in the box.
This is pure insanity but I expect nothing less from MoCo
You know that you don’t have to take your kids if you don’t want to? And that if you do want to, you can take your kids. Right? You know that don’t you?
Okay, Groomer.
If you think it’s acceptable for men dressed and made up as sexualized caricatures of women to read books or interact in any way with children, you are a groomer.
Imagine thinking it’s a good idea to bring your children to a mentally ill stranger dressed as a woman to read books to them and talk about sexuality. Why don’t you just read books to them yourself?
This is crazy. Why does my kid need a queer role model? Why do I need to teach my kid to defy gender restrictions? Gees, be who you want, but leave my kids alone!
What happened to this event? My toddler wandered around the park for 30 minutes looking for it and found no sign of it.
