Emergency Road Work Continues on I-270 Friday Morning; Major Delays Expected Again

by MCS Staff

The two right lanes remain closed on SB I-270 prior to I-370, due to a drainage pipe failure. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) has let motorists to expect major delays during tomorrow’s commute and encourages everyone to leave extra commute time, use alternate routes, or utilize mass transit.

According to yesterday’s press release from Maryland State Police: “At this time, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is out with a large sinkhole in the right lane of I-270 southbound prior to Exit 9 I-370 in Montgomery County.” The sinkhole is the result of a broken 6ft drainage pipe.

Repairs were expected to take 24 hours or more and there is currently no timetable on the completion of the repairs.
