Restaurant news is a staple here at The MoCoShow and TasteMoCo (our food division that “shows you the dish”). Below we’ve created a list of five recently opened restaurants across Montgomery County that have created the most buzz on our social media accounts and website. Check them out below, listed below in no specific order:
Grandma’s Ice Cream and Waffles (Rockville): Grandma’s Ice Cream and Waffles at 389 E. Gude Dr in Rockville, next to the former Branded 72/O’Brien’s restaurant space, opened last month. Grandma’s is owned and operated by the same owners as “Grandma Kona’s” Kona Ice franchise in Gaithersburg/Germantown and offers liege waffle sandwiches with a variety of options including vegan and “soft serve ice cream with unbelievable flavor (including dairy free options) with Grandma’s twist of injecting flavor into the ice cream and if wanted dipped in chocolate or caramel.”
The Breakfast Club (Silver Spring): The Breakfast Club opened in late December at 8240 Fenton Street in Downtown Silver Spring. The restaurant, which features breakfast all day, but also has lunch and dinner menu items, is inspired by “Papa Sherman” who is owner Jason Miskiri’s father. The Breakfast Club’s includes omelets, French toast stuffed with cream cheese and strawberries, pancakes, and other breakfast items. Entrees include items like lamb chops, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and more.
Chef Tony’s at Amalfi (Rockville): Longtime MoCo restaurant Amalfi Ristorante Italiano at 12307 Wilkins Ave in Rockville was bought by the owners of Chef Tony’s Restaurant in Bethesda. The restaurant, now known as Chef Tony’s at Amalfi, “quietly” reopened a couple weeks back. We are told the menu features a rotation of “Amalfi Classics”, many starters, tapas, salads, and pastas, and a variety of seafood entrees. The restaurant also recently released its brunch menu, seen below:
Hulu Skewer House (Rockville): Hulu Skewer House, located at 1488-B Rockville Pike, the former location of Mi Rancho and On The Border before that, next to Yekta, touts “the most authentic Chinese BBQ experience in Maryland.” The restaurant offers a variety of skewers, appetizers, and Chinese cuisine. They also have karaoke available on the second floor. Check out a preview of the restaurant below:
Roaming Rooster (Gaithersburg): Roaming Rooster at 511 Quince Orchard Rd in Gaithersburg is currently holding its soft opening. The restaurant has an official grand opening scheduled for February 15. The restaurant is located in the space previously occupied by Duck Donuts in the Firstfield Shopping Center. Roaming Rooster is known for its variety of buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches that vary in heat depending on the diner’s preferences – mild, medium or hot. In addition to its free-range, grain-fed, antibiotic-free and Halal chicken, Roaming Rooster offers an all week breakfast menu, salads and sides including wings, chicken tenders and hand-cut fries.
