Fourth of July / Fireworks Update

Fourth of July / Fireworks Update

As of right now, there are currently no Fourth of July fireworks officially scheduled in Montgomery County. We are still four weeks away from July 4th so there is a possibility that events could be announced and we will keep you updated.

Back in May, the City of Rockville was the first to announce that they had cancelled their Fourth of July celebration, but many residents had hoped that with the increase in vaccinations and loosening of social distance guidelines, other events in the county would go on as usual.

Montgomery Parks tells us that right now there are currently no fireworks scheduled at any of the county parks, although the town of Chevy Chase has applied to host fireworks at Leland Neighborhood Park.

The City of Gaithersburg, which traditionally hosts “Summerfest” the week of the July 4, has announced, “
Due to uncertainty during the extensive advance planning stages, SummerFest and its traditional fireworks display will not be held. In its place we will be hosting a variety of in-person and virtual community events surrounding the Independence Day holiday. Details will be coming soon.”

Nearby Frederick has not announced a location yet for their July 4 celebration, stating, “In light of CDC guidance urging against large gatherings where physical distancing cannot be maintained, the traditional Frederick’s 4th activities in Baker Park will not take place in 2021. Celebrate Frederick is actively planning a fireworks display at an alternate location where the community can view the show from the safety of their vehicles. Continue to check back for more details! ”
