Fryer’s Roadside to Reopen Next Week

by Patrick Herron

Fryer’s Roadside at 12830 New Hampshire Ave in Colesville’s Meadowood Shopping Center has announced it will be reopening on Thursday, December 8. Fryer’s, which first opened as “a traditional walk-up window Chicken Shack/Ice Cream Stand” back in August 2021, was sold to the owners of All Set Restaurant & Bar back in September. According to the restaurant, the new overhauled menu will feature reimagined versions of some Fryer’s favorites, alongside unique new additions such as Catfish Nuggets, Whole Fried Chicken and Honey Sriracha Brussels Sprouts. The restaurant will also feature select BBQ items from All Set’s sister restaurant Money Muscle BBQ.

Per Fryer’s Roadside: Chef Edward Reavis and Jennifer Meltzer, the team behind All Set Restaurant & Bar and Money Muscle BBQ, are thrilled to announce the official reopening of Fryer’s Roadside. The duo first announced the purchase of the Silver Spring-based fried chicken and ice-cream stand in September 2022 and will reopen the quick-serve restaurant for walk-up and carry-out ordering during lunch and dinner at 12830 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring on Thursday, December 8th with a brand-new menu.

Fryer’s Roadside first opened in 2021, serving fried chicken, sides, soft-serve ice cream and snowballs to the Montgomery County community. After a year, previous ownership announced that the eatery was available for sale, prompting Chef Reavis and Meltzer to purchase the restaurant in September 2022. Chef Reavis, who grew up eating Southern cooking in a small southeastern Virginia town, has thoughtfully overhauled the menu which now features reimagined versions of some Fryer’s favorites alongside unique new additions.

New and improved gluten-free and halal Southern fried chicken options will be front and center including Chicken Tenders, Fried Chicken, and a Fried Chicken Sandwich (served on a Challah roll and topped with dill pickles and coleslaw), all available in classic, spicy and smokin’ hot spice levels. Chef Reavis’ recipes feature beloved regional seasoning, Old Bay, in addition to a combination of all-purpose flour and potato starch to achieve a uniquely light and crispy texture. Guests can also look forward to additional fried offerings new to the Fryer’s concept such as Catfish Nuggets and a Whole Fried Chicken.

New offerings also include an updated selection of side dishes including Honey Sriracha Brussels Sprouts, Potato Salad, Mac & Cheese, BBQ Beans, Potato Wedges, Coleslaw, Pickles, and Collard Greens. Individual, kids, and family combo meals will also be available. Diners can also get a taste of Money Muscle BBQ at the restaurant as a selection of BBQ options including Smoked Chicken Wings with a choice of honey sriracha or dry rub, BBQ Pork Ribs, Texas Brisket, and a Cuban Panini featuring Carolina Pulled Pork, ham, pickles, Swiss cheese, and house-made dijonnaise, are available on the menu. The Money Muscle BBQ smokers will also be housed at the Fryer’s location.

“As longtime members of the Silver Spring community, we are ecstatic to reopen Fryer’s and continue to serve delicious food in Montgomery County,” said Jennifer Meltzer. “I grew up around the corner from here, so I feel a deep connection to the area and am grateful that we can provide another great food option,” she continued. “We’re also excited for people to try the food. We have worked hard to develop a menu that captures the spirit of the restaurant, while showcasing the other things we love making, like BBQ,” Chef Reavis said. “This menu is designed to celebrate flavorful, Southern-inspired comfort foods and be accessible to everyone,” he added.

In keeping with the spirit of Fryer’s original menu, diners will be able to enjoy soft serve ice cream, milkshakes, and sundaes such as the classic Chocolate Fudge Sundae, a Snickers Sundae (Chef Reavis’ take on Fryer’s original Turtle Sundae), topped with caramel sauce and snicker chunks, and a Peanut Butter Sundae, featuring peanut sauce, Reese’s cups, and chopped nuts. Additional dessert options can be found in the “Bakes and Sweets” section of the menu and include Biscuits, Fried Oreos, and Skillet Cornbread.

Located at 12830 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, Maryland, Fryer’s Roadside is open for walk-up ordering and carry-out Tuesday through Thursday from 11am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 9pm and Sunday from 11am to 8pm.
