Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman Endorses David Blair for County Executive

Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman has endorsed David Blair for Montgomery County Executive. Ashman has served as the mayor of Gaithersburg since 2014.

Press release from Blair for County Executive:

Rockville, Md., April 20, 2022 — Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman has endorsed David Blair for Montgomery County Executive.

“David Blair is going to bring the fresh perspective and collaborative leadership we need from our County Executive to better serve Gaithersburg and its residents,” said Ashman, who last year was re-elected to his fourth term as mayor. “I’ve been impressed with David’s leadership serving those in need during the pandemic. I know David has the ability to bring much-needed new businesses and economic activity to our County and that he will work with municipal leaders to improve the quality of life for everyone.”

More than 70,000 people live in the City of Gaithersburg, making it the third largest city in the State and a key commercial and residential hub. The city is home to some of Montgomery County’s largest employers, including AstraZeneca, Novavax, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

“I’m incredibly grateful to Mayor Ashman for his support, his dedication to growing Gaithersburg’s economy, and his work bringing major cultural events like the Gaithersburg Book Festival to our community” Blair said. “Mayor Ashman and I both recognize the importance of growing good-paying jobs and affordable housing in Gaithersburg, and that we need experienced executive leadership at the County level to better support this diverse city.”

Mayor Ashman conceived of the Gaithersburg Book Festival while serving as a City Councilmember before he became mayor. The annual event has attracted some of the best authors in the world to Montgomery County.

Mayor Ashman has been instrumental in attracting life sciences company Novavax to Gaithersburg, the redevelopment of the former Leidos Property into a life sciences campus, and the refresh of Kentlands Market Square – the focal point of the Kentlands community known as one of the leading “new urbanism” neighborhoods in the country.

Mayor Ashman joins other Gaithersburg leaders including Maryland State Senators Cheryl Kagan (District 17) and Nancy King (District 39) in endorsing Blair for Montgomery County Executive. County Democratic elected officials to endorse Blair include former Congressional Reps. John Delaney and Michael Barnes and former City of Rockville Mayor and 2018 County Executive candidate Rose Krasnow.

The Democratic Primary for County Executive will be July 19, 2022. Early Voting will run from July 7 through July 14, 2022.
