Gaithersburg: “Rise Up for Parks & Recreation” This July

by MCS Staff

It’s time to get outside & rise up for Gaithersburg Parks, Recreation & Culture. Since 1985, America has celebrated July as Park & Recreation Month. A program of the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA), the goal is to raise awareness of the vital impact that parks & recreation have on communities across the U.S.

The Mayor & City Council will proclaim July as Parks and Recreation Month in the City at their meeting on July 5. The proclamation reminds Gaithersburg residents of the importance of parks & recreation facilities, programs, staff, and volunteers while encouraging everyone to embrace active lifestyles & improve their overall health.

“With this year’s theme, ‘We Rise Up for Parks & Recreation,’ Gaithersburg will be highlighting how our community is stronger, more vibrant & more resilient because of parks and recreation,” said Carolyn Muller, Director of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture. “We will bring attention to how important it is to rise up and support parks & recreation staff & volunteers, as they rise up in service of equity, climate-readiness, and overall health & well-being.”

During Parks & Recreation Month, the City is offering a variety of opportunities to celebrate health, fitness & cultural arts, that can be seen here.
