Have a Relaxing and Wonderful Spring Break: A Message from MCPS Superintendent, Dr. Monifa B. McKnight

Montgomery County Public Schools sent the following community message from Superintendent Monifa B. McKnight on Thursday, March 30:
“Dear students, staff and families,
Spring Break is here: next week, there will be no classes. No exams. No final papers and no reason not to rest, relax and recharge to be ready for the remainder of the school year. Spring Break is a time for you to do something for yourself or your family that everyday life may otherwise hamper.

It’s also a moment to reflect, and I want to take this moment to express my gratitude and admiration for all of your hard work as scholars and educators. Despite that hard work, each of you has risen to the challenge and your accomplishments are remarkable. First, as we reported to the Board of Education in a meeting on March 28, student academic performance is on the rise. Vital literacy and math skills attainment is improving for all types of students, and we’re committed to ongoing improvement in all of our academics. Students also are:

  • Learning and acquiring knowledge and skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

  • Exploring their interests and developing critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Developing leadership skills, team building, and communication skills, providing experiences that help students discover new talents and fostering dreams for the future.

Staff has been working hard too. I see it in my school visits. Every single one of you has gone above and beyond to ensure that:

  • Our students receive the attention and resources they need.

  • Juggling multiple tasks daily, attending numerous meetings, leading learning, ensuring our systems operate flawlessly, and preparing engaging lessons.

You all have been busy and working hard.

Whether traveling or staying close to home, I encourage you to take some time to engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Take the opportunity to care for your mental, emotional and physical well-being. We all do better in school and life when we are healthy.

As we look ahead to the remainder of the school year, I am confident that we will continue to rise to the occasion and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. Let us return from Spring break with renewed energy and a sense of purpose, ready to tackle the next phase of our journey.

Thank you for all that you do, and have a wonderful Spring break!

Sincerely,

Dr. Monifa B. McKnight
Superintendent of Schools”
