How to Watch Movies While in Phase 2

As Montgomery County transitioned to Phase 2 last Friday, June 19, one of the few businesses that remain closed are movie theaters. One theater, however, has options available. AFI Silver, whose theater is located in downtown Silver Spring, has a “Virtual Screening Room” that has been available since late March.

Patrons can choose from a selection of rotating movies to stream from home. Films are available to be rented for 3-5 days, and tickets range from $10-12, depending on the distributor. A portion of the proceeds goes towards the maintenance of the theatre.

AFI Silver’s programming team also hosts a weekly podcast, Silver Streams, providing additional recommendations for movies to watch online.
