HUGE News for Rio Washingtonian in Gaithersburg

by MCS Staff
I just got off the phone with the the marketing director for the Rio Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg and was given some great news about things to come for the lakefront shopping center.

Yard House, which offers “great food, classic rock, and the worlds largest selection of draft beer” is working towards taking over the old Macaroni Grill location. There are still a few hoops left for Yard House to jump through, but it’s looking like a strong possibility.

Poke District will be opening soon where the old Sprint store was over by the movie theater. Per their website: “Inspired by Hawaiian cuisine, Poki District brings you a bowl of freshest ingredients, from salmon and ahi tuna to chicken and tofu, to name a few, topped with the most colorful toppings such as avocado, seaweed salad, and mango, drizzled with the flavorful sauces. Whether you want to stay simple or go adventurous, you can create a bowl that perfect for you.” More on PokiDistrict at www.pokidistrict.com

A pop-up bar called ‘DECK the bar’ will be opening on a few Friday’s for the next month or so on the patio that used to belong to Joe’s Crab Shack. They will offer beer, wine, and some signature drinks that include spiked ciders, a Hot Toddy, and hot cocoa (available regular and spiked). This bar will be run by Nando’s Peri-Peri and food will be offered as well. The first night of DECK the bar will be this Friday, November 17th (for the tree lighting ceremony) and will be back on 11/24, 12/1, and 12/8. There will also be FIREWORKS over the lake on these dates.

I’m told they’re still in on-going discussions about what’s to come in the Cafe Deluxe location as well as something to take over the old Joe’s Crabshack spot permanently. Management has had many different dining establishments approach them, but they’re looking for the right fit.
