Pictured you’ll see Silia Campanero Di Franco cutting her brother Attillio Campanaro’s hair. The Watkins Mill graduates have moved their salon, Illusions Hair Studio, from the Montgomery Village shopping center to Quince Orchard Plaza.
In 1966, 18-year old Rico Campanero arrived in the United States from Italy, having never given a single haircut. But in 1968 he purchased his first barber shop – Rocco’s located in Silver Spring. Now, six salons later (including locations in Lake Forest Mall and Frederick), 71-year-old Rico, his wife Grace and two of his three children, Attilio and Silia (graduates of Watkins Mill High School) have relocated Illusions Hair Studio from Montgomery Village to Quince Orchard Plaza in Gaithersburg, Maryland due to construction and redevelopment of the Montgomery Village shopping center.
The new salon brings the best of Illusions – longtime stylists and staff, many of whom have worked with the family for more than 30 years. With a fresh new look, and an easy to access location, new clients are certain to love the upscale offerings of this full-service salon. The team of highly trained stylists offer hair, waxing and make-up services. Illusions Hair Studio is an authorized distributor for Halo Couture Extension and Million Dollar Eyebrow.
While Rico has long since hung up his clippers, the motivation to open a new salon comes from wanting to cement a legacy for his family. “This salon is theirs to move forward,” says Rico, the family patriarch.
Quince Orchard Plaza is located in Montgomery County, at the intersection of Quince Orchard Road and Clopper Road in Gaithersburg, MD. This center was recently enhanced to welcome new tenants ALDI, HomeGoods and L.A. Fitness. Other tenants include Rite Aid, Buffalo Wild Wings, Staples and an office building.
