Indoor Mask Mandate Reinstated in Montgomery County, Takes Effect 12:01am Saturday

Today the Montgomery County Council, acting as the Board of Health, voted unanimously to reinstate the indoor mask mandate beginning Saturday just after midnight. Based on CDC guidelines, Montgomery County is now considered an area of substantial COVID-19 transmission.

Hans Riemer said that for the potential of future further social distancing requirements the county should be looking at hospitalization count/rates, not case count.

County Vice President At-Large Gabe Albornoz said the council should be looking at other requirements similar to New York and continue to remain vigilant.

Council Member Evan Glass stated how proud he was that 71% of adults are fully vaccinated but frustrated with those that remain unvaccinated. Nancy Navarro also thanked the residents for stepping up over the past 15 months.

A press release and additional information will be released by the county shortly.
