Kusshi Sushi Will Now Provide Lunch For the Staff of 65 MCPS Schools; Bethesda Bagels Will Chip In

Last Friday we let you know that Kusshi Sushi, a popular sushi and Japanese cuisine restaurant in Pike & Rose that has just opened its second MoCo location in Downtown Silver Spring (8512 Fenton Street), will be feeding the staff members of 48 different Montgomery County schools. The restaurant has now upped it to 65 schools (full list available below), following an outpouring of support.

Kusshi Sushi co-owner Wesley Yao posted a contest to social media offering to feed the staff of one MCPS school that would be randomly selected after participants tagged and MCPS teacher or school. 48 different schools were tagged and Yao was going to start the process of randomly selecting a school. “When I saw how much each of those who entered wanted to win, I couldn’t choose just one…so we’re going to feed every school that was nominated.” Yao told us.

After going through the list and seeing some duplicate entries, Yao decided to make the decision to add a few schools that were nominated after the contest officially ended and you the list to 65 schools. For now, costs are preventing him from being able to donate to more schools, but he did tell us that he plans to donate more food when his YouTube account reaches 1,000 subscribers.

Spectrum Foods, Kusshi’s poultry distributor, wanted to join in on the fun and initially decided to donate 300 lbs of chicken to help the cause. Once more schools were added and it was clear more chicken would be needed. They decided to increase their donation to whatever Kusshi needed for the lunches. Kusshi will be providing the 65 schools with bento boxes for each staff member and hopes to be able to get this done by the end of 2022. Bethesda Bagels will also chip in– working with Kusshi Sushi to provide breakfast to some local schools near their Fallsgrove, Bethesda Row, and Wildwood locations.

Yao also wanted to celebrate the opening of the new Downtown Silver Spring location by offering a 20% discount to anyone who direct messages them with “The MoCoShow sent me!”
