Limited Spectators Now Allowed at MoCo Sporting Events

The Montgomery County Council voted today to allow spectators back at sporting events beginning April 2nd at 5PM.

The regulation allows two spectators per athlete, up to 50 spectators per event. All spectators must wear face masks and practice social distancing.

Press Release:

Rockville, Md., March 26, 2021—Today, the Council voted unanimously to approve an amended Board of Health regulation to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the County and provide updated guidance for allowing spectators at sporting events. The amended Board of Health regulation is effective on April 2 at 5 p.m.

The regulation allows two spectators per participating athlete at a sports event up to a maximum of 50 spectators if:

  • the site has a barrier to delineate the area for spectators from the area for the participating athletes and coaches;
  • the area for the spectators is large enough to provide for social distancing between all spectators from different households; and
  • all spectators wear face coverings and practice social distancing of at least six feet.

The health officer or the officer’s designee may approve a COVID Protocol Plan that includes more than 50 spectators for an event if the officer finds that the plan provides for reasonable safety for all participants.
