Local Family Celebrates the Holidays and Tradition With Extravagant Light Display in Germantown

by Patrick Herron

The Salgado family of Germantown have been doing their Christmas light display as far back as they can remember. The incredible display includes giant lighted arches, over 25 inflatables characters, a 20ft snowman, thousands of lights, and an animatronic Santa. New this year to the display is a hand built outdoor nativity stable.

They call it the Salgado Family Christmas Display, and is put together each year by siblings Pahan and Supuli, their parents Ameesha and Chalanga, and uncle Indika. The tradition started at their grandmothers house in Gaithersburg when Pahan and Supuli were small children. The display eventually moved to her children’s home in Germantown. Their grandmother passed away last year due to a heart attack and the family lost their other grandmother in Sri Lanka last year as well. To honor them and their memories, the family added two angels next to the stable this year.

The family tells us they have hundreds of visitors that come each year.

The display is open from dusk to dawn every day starting from November 20 through January 7 at 11609 Lucrece Ter in Germantown. They welcome everyone to take photos with the display and animatronics and go under the arch tunnel of lights.
