Local Group of MCPS Teachers Urging State of Maryland to Open A Mass Vaccine Site in MoCo

An advocacy group known as the Vaccine Hunters, comprised of eight Montgomery County Public School teachers, are encouraging residents to reach out to state and local officials to demand a mass vaccination site in the county.

To date, the Vaccine Hunters have helped over 600 senior citizens secure appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Excerpts from the letter:

“The closest mass vax clinics for Montgomery County residents are in Baltimore and Prince George’s County. Both of these areas have been hard hit by Covid. By having Montgomery County residents go to those sites, you are effectively reducing accessibility for residents of many Maryland counties. Montgomery County residents are having to travel a further distance and by doing so, take appointments that could be used by Prince George’s County or Baltimore residents.”

“To travel from our most impacted zip code, 20904, via public transportation to Six Flags, would take over 2.5 hours each way. This creates an unreasonable strain on families and individuals that are trying to balance work and home life in the midst of a pandemic.”
