Marc Elrich Releases Recommendation for MCPS in Capital Improvements Program (CIP)
Today, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich released his recommended CIP, which includes $1.71 billion over the six-year period for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), approximately 94.3 percent of the school system’s request.
In response, Board of Education President Shebra Evans and Dr. Jack Smith have released this statement:
“We are deeply disappointed with the County Executive’s Recommended Capital Budget for Fiscal Year 2021. His recommendation for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is not only less than the capital request made by the Board of Education, but also is less than the capital budget amount approved by the Montgomery County Council last year. This recommended decrease comes at a time when our enrollment has increased by more than 10,000 students in the last five years and our aging building infrastructure continues to be strained. We ask that the County Council closely examine this recommendation and work to ensure MCPS has the funding needed to provide safe and functional classrooms and schools for our growing student population.”
UPDATED TO REFLECT RECOMMENDATION IS FOR 2021-2026 CIP
