May is National Chip Your Pet Month
From the Montgomery County Humane Society:
If your dog or cat has ever gone missing, you know the heartache of searching for your best friend, and the dread of never finding them. Microchips are a simple way to help facilitate a quick reunion.
So, what is a microchip? This small chip, which is about the size of a grain of rice, is implanted just beneath your pet’s skin, usually near the shoulder blades. If your pet does get lost, and is found and taken to a shelter or animal hospital, they can quickly be scanned for the microchip. The chip reader gives information to a database of chip numbers, which will provide the owner’s contact information and help expedite the reunion.
If your pet is already microchipped, now is a good time to verify that your contact information is properly registered and up-to-date.
As part of our mission to end animal homelessness, MCHS offers easy and affordable microchipping services at our location in Rockville. During the month of May, save $10 on your pets’ microchip at MCHS! For more information and to set up an appointment for your cat or dog, please call us at (240) 252-2555.
