MCDOT Snow Update: Snow Crews Are Still Active and a Wind Advisory is in Effect Until 10 P.M. Jan. 17

For Immediate Release: Monday, January 17, 2022

The Winter Weather Advisory ended for Montgomery County at 1 a.m. Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) crews finished plowing and treating primary roads around 9 p.m. last night and made a pass-through on all residential streets overnight. Tree crews have responded to reports of several downed trees.

A pocket of snow moved across the region beginning around 5 a.m. coating previously treated roads. Crews have returned to retreat main roads to maintain access to public health facilities. Total snow accumulation for this event was between two to four inches throughout the County. Crews are fully mobilized, and the Storm Operations Center remains active to address conditions as necessary.

Wind Advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Jan. 17. West winds of 20 to 25 mph are expected with gusts of up to 55 mph. Damaging winds will likely blow down scattered trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible. Residents are asked to secure loose objects outside as they may be blown away or damaged.

Montgomery County’s Ride On bus service had announced a temporary reduction in service due to a growing number of bus operators sick or exposed to COVID-19. The schedule changes began yesterday as planned and are posted on MCDOT’s website. The new schedule will operate today, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 17 in place of a holiday schedule. Riders should expect that there may be some weather-related delays.
