MCPD: Two Men Arrested for Gaithersburg Carjacking

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged 38-year-old Darrell Amos Barnes Jr., of Rockville, and 35-year-old Marcus Antonio Umanzor, of Gaithersburg, for a strong-arm carjacking that occurred on Monday, December 19, 2022.

On December 19, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Gaithersburg Police and 6th District officers responded to the 200 block of N. Frederick Ave. for the report of a carjacking that just occurred. The investigation by detectives determined that the victim was sitting in the front passenger seat of a 2012 Honda Insight, when one suspect knocked on the window and told the victim to get out. The second suspect opened the driver’s side door and told the victim to get out. The victim exited the vehicle out of fear. Then, the second suspect drove away in the Honda and the first suspect walked away.

On the same day, officers located and identified Barnes as one of the suspects. He was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with conspiracy carjacking and resisting arrest. Barnes was given a $10,000 unsecured personal bond and released.

Detectives later identified Umanzor as the second suspect. He was arrested on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with carjacking and conspiracy carjacking. Umanzor was given a $5,000 bond and was released after posting ten percent.
