Metro Releases New Strategic Plan, “#YourMetro, The Way Forward“

Per WMATA: As Metro prepares to introduce its Fiscal Year 2024 proposed budget this week, Metro today released an update for customers and stakeholders on the development of a new strategic plan, #YourMetro, The Way Forward. The plan will provide a long-term strategy and direct Metro’s day-to-day decision making over the next five plus years.

Metro has been gathering information and feedback from customers on rail, bus, and paratransit, local elected officials, employees, stakeholders, and Board Members to understand the region’s priorities for the future of Metro.  The update released today outlines draft goals focused on service excellence, regional opportunity and partnership, sustainability, and talented teams.

“The WMATA Board appreciates all the work staff has done to develop priorities and initiatives that represent diverse voices throughout the region,” said WMATA Board Chair Paul C. Smedberg. “I welcome the collaborative approach and look forward to hearing more feedback from the public to further shape this plan as a guide for transit. After all, it’s Your Metro.”

“Public engagement is at the heart of our strategic plan. Metro’s customers and stakeholders should lead the way, both in the development of our overall strategy and in the Authority’s day-to-day mission. As we wrestle with tough decisions around where to prioritize our investments, this strategic plan will provide a North Star for our organization,” said General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke.

Strategic Plan

Metro customers, regional partners and stakeholders are encouraged to provide their input over the next two weeks. The updated plan is now available online at wmata.com/strategicplan and a hybrid community meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 13, for Metro to present its progress update and receive public input. Customers and stakeholders can also submit feedback using our online feedback form by Friday, December 16, 2022.

Metro leadership will present a draft plan to the Board of Directors early next year. Following the release of the draft plan, Metro will conduct additional public engagement, including a Compact public hearing. The final plan is expected to be ready for Board adoption in February 2023, prior to adoption of the FY2024 budget.
