Metrobus Adjusts Some Routes to Better Serve Customers and Improve Safety

Effective Sunday, Sept. 11, Metro has implemented service adjustments on more than a dozen routes across the District, Maryland and Virginia. The changes are designed to improve the customer experience with more consistent, reliable schedules, upgraded facilities and route modifications to maintain safety.

In addition, customers who ride the 11C in Virginia will benefit from free shuttle buses that will operate instead due to major construction on the Yellow and Blue lines. The adjustments will allow metro to better allocate resources across the Metrobus network and minimize the inconvenience to customers. Wait times between buses will change by only a few minutes.

Earlier this year, Metro also launched an effort to hire more bus drivers, providing hiring bonuses and increased salaries after completing training as an incentive to new candidates. The Metrobus adjustments coincide with new names at several Metrorail stations and a newly reconstructed multimodal center at Ballston Station. Destination signs on buses, maps and digital displays will begin to be updated to reflect these changes.

Metro has conducted extensive outreach to notify affected customers about the change, with information and assistance available in multiple languages. Beginning in late August, signs were posted on all affected routes in buses and at bus stops, bus information displays and digital signs in stations. Information about the bus service changes was also communicated through our social media channels @MetrobusInfo, MetroAlerts text and email messages, and service advisory on wmata.com. Real-time bus information and trip planning tools will be updated to reflect the changes. Customers may go to the timetables or use Metro’s Trip Planner for updated schedule information.

Metro’s customer service team is also available to assist customers with trip planning. Representatives are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to provide real-time information online or by phone. Metro’s customer service team responds to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram social posts, emails and chat conversations. Customers also can get by calling 202-637-7000 or visiting wmata.com.
