Montgomery County Councilmember Navarro and Council President Albornoz to Host Council’s Hispanic Heritage Month Commemoration

Per Montgomery County:
ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 7, 2022—The Montgomery County Council will hold its ninth annual Hispanic Heritage Month commemoration hosted by Councilmember Nancy Navarro and Council President Gabe Albornoz on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 11:30 a.m.

Councilmember Navarro initiated the creation of the Council’s multicultural commemorations and has led the Council’s Hispanic Heritage Month commemoration throughout her tenure on the Council to honor local leaders and celebrate important initiatives that affect the County’s Latino community. The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Latinas: Leadership Without Borders,” and will include a special video program and Council proclamation.

The video program will feature community leaders Carmen Hernandez, Monica Braden, and Angelica Zaragoza.

“Community and civic leaders across Montgomery County and beyond are accelerating the positive transformation of our neighborhoods. In a jurisdiction that is majority people of color, immigrant women are leading the way to a resilient future with limitless possibilities,” said Councilmember Navarro. “This is why during Hispanic Heritage Month at the Council, we are celebrating leaders like Carmen, Angelica and Monica, whose work, advocacy, mentorship and unmatched commitment are lifting and empowering others in our community to do the same.”

“I am honored to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Councilmember Navarro, our colleagues and the entire community,” said Council President Albornoz. “This year’s theme is a wonderful tribute to our Latina leaders, who contribute to every corner of our society.”

The commemoration will be held during the Council’s Oct. 11 morning meeting and will be streamed live on the Council’s Facebook page, YouTube channel and at the Council website. Residents also will be able to watch live on television on Comcast/RCN channels 996/1056 Verizon channel 30.
