Montgomery County Police Investigating Reports of Mail Theft from USPS Collection Boxes

Montgomery County Police released the following  statement on Facebook Tuesday afternoon:


Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Financial Crimes Unit and Inspectors from the United States Postal Service (USPS) have been investigating recent reports of mail thefts from USPS collection boxes, ‘blue boxes,’ in the Silver Spring and Bethesda areas.

Suspects have been targeting USPS collection boxes that are located outside and they are specifically looking for outgoing checks.

Detectives suggest that you use collection boxes inside the post office to send mail.
