County Executive Marc Elrich will not announce Phase Three of MoCo’s reopening plan until about a week after the July 4 weekend, he said on Wednesday. Phase Three allows limited openings of concerts and theaters and decreased distancing requirements for gyms, places of worship, and other indoor gatherings.
Elrich and MoCo Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles are delaying Phase Three to give officials time to analyze data and check for emerging hotspots of cases following the holiday weekend.
MoCo reported 96 new cases today, the fourth-highest daily total in three weeks. The chart shows that the number of new cases has generally decreased or plateaued since MoCo began reopening on July 1.

I appreciate that you are waiting to move to phase 3 of Montgomery County’ reopening plan. I hope that you will wait for 2 weeks after the July 4th weekend to be sure about how many cases of Covid virus are transmitted during the week end, especially with many out-of -towners coming in for the fireworks and every one really itching to get out and enjoy a good time. With Trump’s example of no masks and no social distancing, I’m sure many people will not take the threat of the virus seriously.
I didn’t see any mention of bars opening- I hope that is something we can avoid for a while because it seems that so far, when bars have opened in other areas, many patrons forget about about safety and contribute to the spread of the virus.
It is so sad that we have no leadership from Trump, and the country is starting to blow up again with the virus. Please keep us as safe as possible in Montgomery County!! I thank you for all that you have done and are doing to keep the virus under control.
Thanks for the information! Why don’t people cooperate? At least wearing the face masks when out in public!!??
I Live in MoCo and I’m all for slow opening and mandatory masks if need be. I do however wish the fire works would be handled. Everyday and I know it’s all over but shooting them over my house last night pointing them at us in our yard. We called police several times. They actually advised us to move.
Erich is a “Dictator” not a leader. He’s a wanna be Trump who has nothing but being “powerful & almighty” in his mind. He will never be that!!!
He has already killed off enough businesses & livelihood of so many county residents with no regard to individual rights. If he does not get it opened in this coming week I am sure there will be rampant outrage by all.
Get it together Elrich!
Personally myself I think it’s too soon for everybody to be going anywhere all the bars or the club or the parades Fourth of July going back to work setting everything is too soon to open back up right now people are still dying from covid-19 it’s too early DC Maryland has opened up things too fast and they send the bad result in it that the level keeps Rising
While I agree, with 1 comment, Mr Elkrich wants to be Trump. He doesn’t care about MoCo Residents, because he made no attempt to assist with Mortgage or Rental for now 6 months, also his veiws on the affordable housing are RACIST upon interpretation . I am sick of Gov Hogan lack of Care and financial support for MoCo county Working people. I want both of these 2 White Privilege, 1 sided Old and Out of touch Men They to will be Replaced like their Great Leader Trump, Mr Elkrich Working Class people deserve Respect too.🤡
