Montgomery Parks and Montgomery County Recreation Will Celebrate Park and Recreation Month During July with Special Activities

Montgomery Parks, and Montgomery County Recreation (MCR) are celebrating Park and Recreation Month this July by hosting a variety of free fitness demo days, free popsicle pitstops at various parks located throughout the County and a fitness challenge.

Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association(NRPA), aims to spotlight the ways parks and recreation have the power to transform our daily lives. This year, county residents are encouraged to share their “Park and Recreation Stories,” highlighting how parks and recreation create experiences and memories. Montgomery Parks visitors can share their stories on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by using @MontgomeryParks and #OurParkAndRecStory and #MoCoParks.

Special Events and Activities:

Fitness Demo Days

To generate excitement for the month, staff from Montgomery Parks and Montgomery County Recreation will host fitness demos. Instructors from MCR classes will preview different activities that are offered including family fitness, tai chi and more.

Tuesday, July 13 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Germantown Town Center Urban Park
Saturday, July 17 from 9 – 11 a.m. at Acorn Urban Park.

Popsicle Pitstops

Four popsicle pitstops will be popping up at parks for visitors to enjoy some free treats.

Wednesday, July 7, 2021:
10 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Wheaton Regional Park (Shorefield location near the Adventure Playground)
1 – 3 p.m.: Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Park (at the pool)

Wednesday, July 14, 2021:
10 a.m. – 12 p.m.: South Germantown Recreational Park (near the Adventure Playground)
1:30 – 3:30 p.m.: Cabin John Regional Park (near the miniature train)

Fitness Challenge

MCR will host a fitness challenge with daily challenges. Videos or photos will be shared daily on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, using the hashtag #TheChallengeMCR as well as tagging MCR on each post. At the end of the month, participants who have completed at least two daily challenges each week and posted them on social media will be eligible to win prizes.
