Montgomery Parks Announces June Special Events and Programs

Montgomery Parks has announced its June line-up of special events. Celebrate Father’s Day, Juneteenth, Pride Month, and more at Montgomery Parks!

June Events at Montgomery Parks Include:

Roots to Rock | Saturday, June 4 | Columbia Local Park

Celebrate National Trail Days with the Roots to Rock youth mountain bike ride at Columbia Local Park between 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Bicycles will be available for participants to learn to ride, try out the new Upper Paint Branch Trail system, or enjoy a guided ride. Free.

Summer Twilight Concert Series | Tuesday, June 7, 14, 21, and 28 | Brookside Gardens 

Join us Tuesday evenings in June from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a series of free musical performances set in the beauty of the gardens. Each performance features a different musical genre—classic rock, Latin pop, reggae, and bluegrass. Bring your friends and family, chairs, blankets, and picnics (allowed in the gardens on concert evenings only). Food will be available for purchase at each event. Free.

Skate Night | Friday, June 10, 17, and 24 | Various locations

Perfect your tricks and catch some air at Skate Night. Event times for all dates are 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Food will be available for purchase at each event. Open to skaters of all abilities. Free.

Parks Playhouse Jr. | June 7, 11, 17, and 23 | Various locations

The Parks Playhouse Junior series starts on Tuesday, June 7, at 10 a.m. at Ellsworth Urban Park with a children’s puppet show and concert featuring Kidsinger Jim. Other performances include

Ages three and up. Free.

Parks Playhouse, PRIDE in the Park: An LGBTQ Comedy Show | June 9 | Fairview Road Urban Park

In celebration of Pride Month, Improbable Comedy is getting a rainbow makeover and showcasing local queer comics! Some of the best LGBTQIA+ performers will make you laugh with their stand-up routines – touching on personal topics of relationships, family, love, and more. The party starts at 6:00 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the event. The show kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic blankets. This event is intended for mature audiences ages 17 and up and is not recommended for viewers under 17. Free.

Josiah Henson Birthday Celebration | Saturday, June 18 | Josiah Henson Museum and Park

Come celebrate the life of Reverend Josiah Henson and Juneteenth weekend with free museum admission, hands-on activities, refreshments, and more from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Woodlawn Manor Cultural Parks’ Juneteenth Weekend | Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19 | Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park

Celebrate Juneteenth, a commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States, at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park. Take advantage of free museum admission all weekend. Free children’s take-home activities will be available at the Visitor Center on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can also enjoy a StoryWalk(R) of the inspiring book Before She Was Harriet, about young Harriet Tubman. The StoryWalk(R) is presented in partnership with the Noyes Children’s Library Foundation.

On Saturday, the guided Underground Railroad Experience Trail Hike will be offered at 10:00 a.m. The 90-minute hike covers approximately two miles of natural surface wooded trails. Ages 7 and up. Fee $8 per person. Registrationrequired. (Limited same-day tickets sold at the Visitor Center.)

Father’s Day Skate | Sunday, June 19 | Cabin John Ice Rink  and Wheaton Ice Arena

Celebrate your good ol’ Dad on Father’s Day with a fun outing. Dads skate free with one paid admission

Come to Yappy Hour with your pup and share some drinks and pork BBQ (available for purchase) with neighbors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.! Live music with Jay Bird. Free.

Pride in the Park Movie Night | Friday, June 24 | Jesup Blair Local Park

Join Montgomery Parks and the Montgomery County HIV/STI Testing Services for this special screening of Saturday Church at 7:00 p.m. Invite your friends, family, partners, or ride solo and enjoy a summer evening on the lawn of Jesup Blair Local Park. Saturday Church takes the viewer through the story of young 14-year-old Ulysses, a boy who is struggling with his gender identity and faith. Ulysses uses music and fantasy to navigate his life in the inner city, meeting many new friends along the way that help him discover his freedom of expression and passions.

Bring your own food and drink to make your date night a picnic, or purchase refreshments from Astro Lab Brewing and an onsite food vendor. The movie will begin at sundown. This movie is intended for mature audiences ages 18 and up and is not recommended for viewers under 18. Viewer discretion is advised. Free.
