Montgomery Parks announces operating hours and programming for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, announces programming and operating hours for the 2023 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (MLK Day) holiday.

Open Parkways Schedule: The Open Parkways will be extended during the MLK holiday weekend. During this time, parkways are open to pedestrians and bicyclists and closed to motor vehicles

  • Beach Drive between Connecticut and Knowles Avenue (2.9 miles)  
  • Saturday, January 14, at 9 a.m. until Tuesday, January 17, at 7 a.m.
  • Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road and between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West
  • Friday, January 13, at 9 a.m. until Tuesday, January17, at 7 a.m.
  • Little Falls Parkway between Arlington Road and Dorset Avenue (0.4 miles)
  • Open 24/7 for recreation and exercise

Join an MLK Day of Service Cleanup or Weed Warrior event

  • Volunteer Watershed Cleanups: Cleanups at various locations throughout the county on Saturday, January 14, and Monday, January 16. Registration required.
  • Weed Warrior events: Volunteer events at various locations on Saturday, January 14 through Monday, January 16, and Saturday, January 21. Registration required.
