Montgomery Parks Updates Rules for Gathering Sizes in Parks and Camps

MONTGOMERY PARKS UPDATES RULES FOR GATHERING SIZES IN PARKS AND CAMPS IN ACCORDANCE WITH MONTGOMERY COUNTY’S AMENDED HEALTH ORDER

Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is easing some of its COVID-19 restrictions related to outdoor and indoor gathering sizes on parkland and for its summer camps based on Montgomery County’s recently amended health regulations. Montgomery County’s updated health regulations are aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19 while providing a phased approach to reopening. With over 50 percent of the county’s population having received a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, the parks department is increasing outdoor gatherings to 100 people and indoor gatherings to 50 people in accordance with the county’s Fifth Amended Board of Health Regulation. Participants must still wear face coverings (indoors and outside where social distance cannot be maintained) and practice social distancing.

Summer Camps:
Montgomery Parks summer camps will now accommodate up to 100 campers outside and up to 50 campers at indoor facilities. For more information on camp safety, visit Montgomery County’s camp safety page. Montgomery Parks will follow all the County standards.

Athletic Facilities and Fields:
Athletic teams may have up to 50 participants for indoor events and up to 50 spectators for indoor events. Athletic teams may have up to 100 participants for outdoor events and up to 100 spectators at outdoor events. For tournament play, teams must provide a waiver approved by the County Health Officer. Tournaments may only include teams from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

Organized sports teams must obtain a permit from Montgomery Parks. Permits are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are required for use of any recreational/regional field. For local fields, permits are not required, but recommended, as non-permitted users must relinquish the field to permit holders. Permits are available via ActiveMontgomery.org or by applying to www.parkpermits.org. For more information, call 301-495-2525.

Park Facilities:
The following Montgomery Parks facilities will increase visitor capacity from 25 percent to 50 percent:

  • Food and drink will be permitted at event centers to be consumed while seated in a socially distant manner.
