Moorenko’s opened a Rio location this past June as a summer pop-up, taking over the old 16 Handles location on Boardwalk Drive.
The plan was to see how things went before deciding on whether to stay permanently. Moorenko’s management told us negotiations were ongoing after they closed the pop-up location on September 26th.
This week Moorenko’s posted a message on its Facebook page stating the following: “We had a wonderful time @RIOLakefront last summer but are sad to report that we will not be re-opening – the management decided against us. Thanks to all of the delightful customers who visited us! We’ll keep you updated about other possible new locations.”
Rio told us they enjoyed having Moorenko’s as a seasonal pop-up and wish them the best going forward.
Moorenko’s has its original MoCo location at 8030 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. No word on what will be taking over the location in Rio.
