New COVID-19 Newsletter Developed by Northwest High School Juniors

Edward Xiao and Kavi Patel, two juniors at Northwest High School in Germantown, have created a free COVID-19 newsletter tool for dispersing information about COVID-19 in Montgomery County.

You can register for the free newsletter here.

“Our inspiration behind this project came from the poor readability and inconsistent nature of data on the Maryland and Montgomery County websites. This data was difficult for residents to understand and from there we knew we wanted to create a tool that could deliver COVID-19 data in a clean format on a regular basis.”

The two created the newsletter while working together in a local hackathon.

“Our weekly newsletters host a variety of information: four detailed COVID-19 graphs with relevant captioning alongside our latest integration—evaluation of school metrics. MoCo COVID-19 is not just limited to a free email service, it is a hub for all information related to the virus. For users who do not feel comfortable with email, we included an Online Newsletter on our website. We also feature a blog section where we will post recent important information and a news section that fetches the latest COVID-19 headlines.”

They were also recently featured on WUSA9.
