Around 10:50AM on Saturday March 27, Montgomery County authorities responded to a residence in the 13000 block of Hathaway Drive in the Wheaton-Glenmont area. Montgomery County Police 4th District Officers were the first to arrive on the scene, and found Anne Catherine Akers had stabbed her 3-year-old daughter in the neck. Officers immediately rendered aid to the toddler.

The 3-year-old was critically injured, and was flown to an area hospital by a Maryland State Police Aviation Command Medevac helicopter. Hospital physicians credited the 4th District Police Officers’ immediate interventions with saving the 3-year-old’s life.

Montgomery County Detectives have charged Akers with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and  first-degree child abuse. She is being held without bond.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the child and her father.
