Opening Date for New Trader Joe’s in Bethesda Announced

Trader Joe’s has reached out to let us know that their new location at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue, named “Bethesda-Downtown”, will be opening on on March 17.  There will be an opening ceremony that day at 7:55am and the store will open for business at 8am.

Originally the company had posted an opening date of 2/21 in error.

This will be Trader Joe’s fifth location in MoCo, but is notable because it will be its second in Bethesda. The existing Bethesda location, Trader Joe’s Bethesda, is located at 6381 Wisconsin Avenue just one mile down the street. We spoke with a representative from the current Bethesda store who told us there is no plan to close the location and that both will remain open.

Per Trader Joe’s:

On Thursday, March 17th, Trader Joe’s will open its second store in Bethesda, Maryland. The new store is located at 7900 Wisconsin Ave., with 80 dedicated parking spots in the parking garage located on the backside of the building at 8001 Woodmont Ave. Moments before doors open at 8am, there will be a brief ceremonial ribbon cutting. Store Captain Chris Galloway—a 14-year veteran of the company—and Trader Joe’s Crew Members will be on hand to welcome customers to their new neighborhood store.

The 10,505 square-foot store will be the 9th Trader Joe’s in Maryland and the 2nd in Bethesda. This will be the first new store in Maryland in more than 14 years. Its interior will feature artwork highlighting the Woodmont triangle, Capital Crescent trail, Loche house #6, Congressional golf course, and the Historic Bethesda theater.

As a neighborhood grocery store, Trader Joe’s prides itself on hiring from the community where the store is located. Most of the Crew Members are local to this neighborhood, with some transfers coming from the existing Bethesda store right down the road. Hiring efforts are still underway. Anyone interested in applying can visit traderjoes.com/careers for more information.

In addition, through the company’s longstanding Neighborhood Shares Program, the new Bethesda – Downtown Trader Joe’s will donate 100% of products that go unsold but remain fit to enjoy to a range of non-profit, community-based organizations, seven days a week.
